Larry T. Wilson served as President & CEO of Coastal Federal Credit Union in Raleigh, North Carolina, from 1974 until his retirement in 2012. Active in the credit union movement since 1972, Wilson was a member of the board of directors of the North Carolina Credit Union League from 1974 to 2002, serving as its chairman from 1980 to 1984. The Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation appointed Wilson to serve on an Advisory Committee to create a National Secondary Market for Home Improvement Loans from 1980 to1982. In 1991, NAFCU recognized his credit union as the Credit Union of the Year. He was appointed to the Federal Reserve Thrift Advisory Council for the 1995-96 term. From 2002-2011, Wilson served as the NAFCU Region III Director. Wilson served on the Credit Union Direct Lending Corporation Board of Directors from 2004-2012. Wilson has served as a CUNA national director, and on various CUNA committees. In 2012 he received the Lifetime Achievement award from the North Carolina Credit Union League. He joined the CUNA Mutual Board of Directors in May 1986. He served as chairman of the board from 1997 to 1999 and has also held the offices of vice chairman, treasurer and secretary. In July of 2012, he was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine by the Governor of North Carolina. Wilson earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from North Carolina State University in 1972.
