With over 30 years leadership experience in private and public sectors, Norris Tolson has a keen knowledge of business and economic development. Before joining Williams Mullen, Norris spent 7 years as the CEO of the NC Biotech Center, where he was instrumental in the incredible growth and success of the life sciences industries in NC. Prior, Norris served in 3 NC cabinet positions: Secretary of the Department of Revenue, Department of Transportation and Department of Commerce, as well as serving in the NC General Assembly. Norris spent 28 years in key leadership positions for DuPont where he ran the Agrichemicals Marketing Division and was Sr. VP of DuPont’s electronics business division. His breadth of experience in the public and private sectors includes responsibilities for strategic planning for growth in the public and private sector, ranging from multi-billion dollar science driven companies to assisting science based startups seeking focused assistance in incubator environments. Serving on many boards in NC – NC State Universities Board of Trustees finishing his service as the Vice Chair, the NC Community College Board, the NC Economic Development Board, NC Science, Technology and Innovation Board and the Bio-Fuels Center Board, Norris is NC native from Pinetops and received his undergraduate degree from NC State University.
