Carolyn is a Director in Cherry Bekaert’s Tax Credits and Incentives Advisory practice. Carolyn focuses on federal and state research and development tax credits, employee retention credits, cost segregation studies, as well as a variety of energy incentives. She also participates in tax controversy at both the federal and state levels.
With more than 20 years of experience as an R&D tax incentive professional, Carolyn focuses on federal and state incentives related to R&D, hiring, capital expansion and energy sustainability in key industry with a specific focus on life science and real estate and construction industries. Other industries in which Carolyn practices include technology and software development, industrial manufacturing, private equity and automotive.
Prior to joining Cherry Bekaert, Carolyn spent eleven years as a Federal Tax Credit Specialist with a Big Four accounting firm. Carolyn has mastered how to help clients identify, evaluate, and implement an array of tax incentives and planning opportunities, including IRC Section 41 research tax credit services, qualified opportunity zones, new markets tax credit financing, employee payroll retention credits, disaster recovery and retention credits, and IRS defense services. Carolyn also has deep experience representing clients before the IRS at both the examination and Appeals levels.
